12/01/11 - Happy New Year from Corryuk
With the start of every New year a sense of renewed optimism starts to pulse through our veins.
But will 2011 deliver reality to our dreams, when the uncertainty that has dogged the business community over the last two years shows no real signs of abatement?
The sector in which you work will inevitably dictate the answer to that most difficult of challenges.
The construction industry continues to remain in the doldrums and as this sector is normally the first indicator of positive change in the economy, this does not appear to bode well.
Add to that Government spending cuts, an increase to the VAT rate and many other negative vibes, we are in danger of stimulating a self-fulfilling prophecy of doom.
But we don’t want to do that!! We have to be the generators of good news.
Exporters need to take advantage of the weak pound to maximise returns from foreign markets and as necessity is the mother of invention we need the innovative ideas of today to become the necessities of tomorrow.
The challenges are immense but we can all help to make things better than they are today, by pushing our respective comfort zones to their limits and just find out how far we can go.
If the private business sector is to lead us out of recession then that is what we have to do.
